Now, the problem is that the bilge pump is still running today and my boat is on a lift. there is no reason for it to be running this long as it clearly is not taking on water while sitting on a lift. is the float sensor for the bilge pump stuck or something? i don't want my battery to die or the pump to burn out if it keeps going like this.. I have an ultra 211...the bilge pump keeps coming on, runs for 2-3 seconds and shuts off but then does it again every 10 seconds or so. it has been doing this now for two days!!. Graeme pullen shows you some totally awesome tips on how to fix a boat bilge pump. he gives you some simple, easy tips on the bilge pump itself and how it works, as well as the steps that you need.
@0627devildog, the automatic feature of the bilge pump is great for a trailer boat...not so great if you leave the boat in the water 24/7 with no available power to keep the batterie(s) topped off. so going with a float type switch is better, and making it hot instead of on the switch.. Other boats, allow this water to drain into the bilge area. at any rate... you need to remember that it is not the bilge pump that sinks boats - it is water that sinks boats. so, you certainly need to find the source of the water that is causing your bilge pumps to run on a frequent or continuous basis.. So give that bilge pump a little respect, and it will keep your bilge dry and maybe even keep your boat afloat long enough for you to figure out where that water's coming from! captain frank lanier has over 30 years of experience in the marine and diving industries, holds a 100gt master's license, and is a sams-accredited marine surveyor..
