Fibreglass Boat Layup

Information and a demonstration of how i layup one of my molds. headlight eyelids. big thanks to randy roach(glasserglass) for some handy tips and some inspiration to make a vid or two.. Corvette fenders and boat dinghies are commonly manufactured this way. it is very different from the hand lay-up process. the difference comes from the application of the fibre and resin material to the mould. spray-up is an open-moulding composites fabrication process where resin and reinforcements are sprayed onto a reusable mould.. I would like to layup my own 13 foot by 5.5 foot semi deep vee hull. it will be decked out as a bass boat, and be running a 60hp outboard motor [109kg]. the critical factor for me will be weight, being such a small boat. my fibreglass layout for the first hull is planned as follows: layer 1: iso gelcoat layer 2: iso gelcoat layer 2.

The right fabric choices need to be determined by the part, use and budget. normally, alternating layers of mat and roven woven (heavy cloth)make up most boat hulls. mat is stiff (and uses more resin per oz per sq ft) and roven woven is more flexible with less resin per sq ft. there are many different layup schedules that will do the same job.. Fiberglass spray lay-up operation. the fiberglass spray lay-up process is similar to the hand lay-up process, but differs in the application of the fiber and resin to the mold. spray-up is an open-molding composites fabrication process where resin and reinforcements are sprayed onto a mold.. Fiberglass and foam lay-up posted on august 28, 2013 by by don after making the mold modifications needed to vacuum bag and infuse the resin, we’re now cutting out the templates to be used for cutting the foam and the fibreglass..
